Ellingstring is a small remote hamlet of only some 25 traditional stone houses and three working farms, strung out for about a half a mile along a single track lane; there are no shops, pubs, church or post office, or indeed any form of public transport. Almost 950 feet above sea level it sits, just below the summit, on the southern hills of the Ure valley, otherwise known as Wensleydale |

To the east one looks across the Vale of Mowbray to the hills of the Yorkshire Moors National Park and to the north across Wensleydale and the river Ure South are the heather moors and woodlands; to the west one has views up into Wensleydale |

The wonderful thing about Ellingstring, which is accessed by miles of single track country lanes, is that there is no sight or sound of passing or distant traffic Wildlife abounds, with curlew, owls, deer, french partridge, black grouse, duck and pheasant to name but a few; many of which enter the grounds of our home and become quiet tame |

The area and indeed Ellingstring is often used for filming including Heartbeat and All Creatures Great and Small; the most recent being in June 2006 when the main duck pond and surrounding lanes were used for scenes in Heartbeat A true rural heaven! |

The totally unspoilt countryside that surrounds Ellingstring is a contrasting mix of arable fields, forests and purple heather moors; with views extending to over 45 miles across open and natural countryside. 
There are two natural ponds, with ducks, moorhen and coot, one being on the lane as you enter
Despite it's beauty, this totally backwater location remains completely tranquil and apart from serious walkers Ellingstring remains free from outside interference or visitors; a true piece of heaven and an escape from the modern world
